Global Curriculum
PIQC integrates the Core Knowledge© curriculum with the existing RBEC / SEDP curriculum prescribed by the Department of Education, invoking various teaching-learning strategies such as differentiation, project-based learning, and research, with an emphasis in application to practical, real-life situations.
Bilingual Education
PIQC is proud of its bilingual education that not only aims to train students to be proficient in both English and Chinese, but seeks to highlight the uniqueness of the Filipino-Chinese culture. Aside from the regular co-curricular activities of the English Department, students are given opportunities to learn Chinese art, calligraphy, translation, speech, dance, and be part of the instrumental ensemble through special activity classes. The school has also participated in and hosted several interscholastic contests in declamation, composition, writing, calligraphy, singing, and translation. PIQC also has the distinct privilege of inviting teachers from Mainland China to teach various Chinese subjects, from kindergarten to high school. During summer breaks, students join study tours in Taiwan and Mainland China organized by the Tan Yan Kee Foundation, Inc., in keeping with the vision of distinguished consultant Dr. Lucio Tan towards greater appreciation of our Chinese culture and heritage.
Holistic Development
More than academics, the school seeks to build the students’ confidence through the development of their innate skills and talents. Activity classes held once a week provide a “breather” from the rigors of academic life. Students learn a variety of new skills such as basic electronics, desktop publishing and lay-outing, drafting, speech and personality development, bookkeeping, food technology, computer software and hardware assembly, and others more.
Students are also trained to build a strong work ethic and develop their leadership skills through participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities such as the Student Council, 360° (school publication), FORCES (Fusion of Responsible and Curious Enthusiasts of Science), PIQC Scouts, Glee Club, Chinese Instrumental Ensemble, Basketball Team and Volleyball Team. Regular programs such as Buwan ng Wika, Playfest, Teachers’ Day, and Christmas Celebration showcase students’ talents onstage, giving them opportunities to express themselves in fun and creative ways.
PIQC also regularly sends students to join interscholastic and international math and science events such as the Rio-Tinto Big Science Competition, Australian Mathematics Competition, Mathematics Trainers’ Guild In-House trainings, International Competitions and Assessments of Schools in English and Science, and others more. We are proud to have some of our participants garner awards in these competitions.
Community Involvement
Through its adult education thrust, the school also seeks to expose parents and other members of the community to various learning opportunities, starting with the basic conversational Mandarin course offered last school year.
